Innovate, Serve, and Develop

Innovations, Service and Development are keys to long-term company growth.  Dr. Robert Cooper says "A unique superior product that delivers unique benefits and a compelling value proposition to the customer or user- is the number one driver of new product profitability".

North Star's service includes service to customers.  But as importantly, it includes service to the users of its projects and inventions.  For example, portable hot water heaters.  Easy to turn on.  Easy to turn off.  Clean water is good for the environment.  Low fuel usage too.  Service to the maker, and the end user too.

Our teams like to develop new products with the stage-gate system with five go-no go gates where a project is evaluated from the business and the technical perspective.  Developing new products this way minimizes waste (reduces costs) and increases the potential for sales.  A disciplined approach to metrics is manageable.

Simplicity

Sleek Magnetically Clasping Replaceable Flyer

Sometimes complicated is the only way, but the goal is to provide solutions that are as simple as possible.  For North Star Group, plain and simple answers are the best.

Expertise

Magnet Assembly

We had a magnetic sub-problem within a greater assembly.  The "right" professor at MIT was engaged.  The combined effort saved 50% of the assembly costs with greater strength.

After many years in the commercial real estate development and sales, Michael launched a new career, inventions of useful items in a variety of fields. Six US Patents granted (see patent section below) and more in the "works". Since 2012 Michael has made and sold (via North Star Group) his inventions.

  • Patent title Frac and storage tank exchanger

Patent dateIssued Mar 20, 2018  Patent issuer and number us 9920605

Patent descriptionAbstract: An exchanger for a tank is described herein. The exchanger may be relied upon in a trailer tank, for example, or any other type of tank that stores fluid. The exchanger includes an inlet, a central fluid conduit, one or more exchanger extension arms having fluid apertures that direct fluid into a tank at various locations, and one or more supports that support the central fluid conduit and the exchanger extension arms. The fluid apertures may be positioned relatively evenly across the exchanger extension arms and/or the central conduit to direct fluid up or at various directions into the tank. Thus, fluid pumped into the inlet of the exchanger may flow through the central conduit, into the exchanger extension arms, and out through the fluid apertures at various locations into the tank. As such, heated fluid, for example, may be more evenly and quickly distributed into the tank.

Flow balanced frac tank farm

Patent dateIssued Mar 13, 2018, Patent issuer and number 9915127

Patent description aspects of a flow balanced frac tank farm are described herein. In one embodiment, the flow balanced frac tank farm includes at least one battery of frac tanks comprising a plurality of frac tank trailers, a header pipe arrangement, and at least one valve between one or more of the frac tank trailers and the header system. The header pipe arrangement may include a header supply pipe to supply water to individual ones of the plurality of frac tank trailers and a header discharge pipe to discharge water from individual ones of the plurality of frac tank trailers. The header pipe arrangement may be relied upon to help balance the flow of heated fluids among the frac tank trailers in frac tank farm.

Pool, large tank, or pond hub exchanger
Patent dateIssued Mar 6, 2018, Patent issuer and number 9909811

Patent description pool, large tank, or pond hub exchanger
Patent number: 9909811
Abstract: An exchanger for a pool, large storage tank, or pond is described herein. In one embodiment, the exchanger includes a diffuser hub, exchanger extension arms that extend radially outward from the diffuser hub, one or more exchanger rings that intersect with the heat exchanger extension arms, and a fill tube that extends to the diffuser hub. One or both of the heat exchanger arms and/or the exchanger rings include fluid apertures that direct fluid into the pool. Fluid pumped into the fill tube may flow through into the diffuser, through the exchanger extension arms and/or the one or more exchanger rings, and out through the fluid apertures at various locations into the pool. As such, heated fluid, or fluid to be mixed, for example, may be more evenly and quickly distributed into the pool.
